Limited Edition - Gardel Award Winner for “Best Concept Album”
The distinction of “Atahualpa Yupanqui in Michigan” in the Gardel Awards “Best Concept Album” category is valuable news. The presence of Yupanqui is increasingly needed to keep alive the deep footprints of the Homeland and national culture. This record is a complete document of Atahualpa's only tour of a country he didn't feel like visiting. That visit was made possible by the immense patriotism of Oscar Ballester and Bernardo Palombo who, in their condition of musicians and residents in the United States, invited the master and recorded his stay with the intuition that they were creating a historical testimony of value. Congratulations to them and to Registros de Cultura for publishing this enormous poetic and musical document.

“Atahualpa Yupanqui in Michigan” is the recording of a live concert given by Yupanqui at the University of Michigan on October 30, 1983.
The CD is accompanied by a book relating the experiences and anecdotes of this event, during the first and only tour that Yupanqui held in the USA. There is an introduction by Juan Falú, a note by Roberto Chavero (Yupanqui’s son) and an essay by Jaime Pellicer.
